Tairua News January 2008

Happy New Year from tairua.org.nz.  Tairua has been thriving during the busy summer period, with lots of events and activities for both locals and holidaymakers, not to mention a fantastic spell of good weather (long may it continue!).

In this month's newsletter:

  • What's Ahead?
  • Why come to Tairua for a long weekend
  • Summer highlights
  • Have your say

What's Ahead?

Creation of Tairua's new library is now underway, with foundations about to be laid.  The library is to be located on Manaia Road, replacing the current library, which was a disused prefab classroom sourced from Hamilton Polytechnic and placed on-site next to the Tairua Hall in 1987.
The Tairua library is being funded locally from reserves and from development contributions. Its creation will not come at a cost to any ratepayers outside of the local area.  The 236 sq m building will include a meeting room, children’s reading area, computer room, staff work room, toilets and a kitchen.

Summer Highlights

The annual Tairua Food and Wine festival on January 5th was a roaring success with over 10000 people and the entire annual fundraising efforts for Tairua School raised.

The Pohutukawa festival on 8th December featuring Rhombus was a huge sucess and attracted a great atmosphere, great weather and a record crowd.

The Tairua Pipemasters annual event was held last weekend at Pepe Reserve Tairua harbour.  Summer crowds came along to watch the impressive skills of top wakeboarders at this free event.

Events like these all contribute to making Tairua a vibrant and interesting holiday destination and a great place to bring visitors.
