Tairua News May 2008In Tairua News this month:
Tairua LibraryThe new Tairua Library on Manaia Road is progressing rapidly and scheduled for opening mid-June. I will soon be taking up the position as Tairua's Community Librarian. I am very excited to be part of the new library development and I will be bringing a great deal of enthusiasm for the Tairua community to the new position. Please do come and pay a visit once the library is open. I think it is a wonderful new addition to our community and I hope to be of useful service to Tairua in my upcoming role. I will be finishing up in my customer support role with WebWidgets and tairua.org.nz next Tuesday 15 May. Please contact support@webwidgets.co.nz if you have any Tairua.org.nz or other website-related queries.
Tairua Business Profile: Radio Tairua 88.3fmBruce Fowlie is a familiar voice for many locals. He is the broadcaster on 88.3fm Radio Tairua - Tairuas very own independent radio station. The motivation for developing Radio Tairua came from his desire to establish something that stimulated his lifelong interest in music, whilst also contributing something new and interesting to his community. The radio station was originally set up by Reuben Jackson, creator of WebWidgets Ltd and tairua.org.nz; and responding to a sales advert in The Local Advertiser, Bruce took over the station in July 2007. Bruce set out to provide more constant Tairua-centred media to the local community, feeling that mainstream media channels forget about Tairua outside of the high season. Radio Tairua is proud to be able to provide opportunities to win free concert tickets and cds for local radio supporters, as a way to say thanks for supporting the station. Since taking over the station, Radio Tairuas following is increasing steadily. Statistics show that 10-12% of radio listeners within the broadcast area are tuning in to Radio Tairua. Thursdays request day had humble beginnings back in November 2007, with just one request submitted to the radio. Bruce now fields up to 100 requests a day on Thursdays! The request day is also a good opportunity for the station to ascertain what kind of music listeners prefer to hear and reflect that back in future programmes. One of the defining aspects of Radio Tairua, is its commitment to airing non-mainstream and New Zealand music. Listeners have expressed an appreciation for this independent streak, along with the refreshing lack of blatant advertising interrupting music programmes, with the stations sponsorship style taking a more brand-centred approach. If you or your business would like to sponsor/promote a timeslot on Radio Tairua, contact Bruce on 0274 784 966. This is your chance to align your business brand with a particular style of music, as can be heard with the Taste Dub Sessions at 7pm on Fridays. The future looks solid for Radio Tairua. The station has been invited to do its first live broadcast at the 2008 Feijoa Festival in Hot Water Beach, so tune in to 88.3fm this weekend if you cant make it to the festival. Radio Tairua is currently extending an invitation to anyone with an interest in broadcast dj-ing to take to the air to present their own regular timeslot. If you think youve got what it takes, contact Radio Tairua for more info. 0274 784 966 Coromandel Peninsula Blueprint ProjectHave you completed your Coromandel Peninsula Blueprint feedback form? www.coroblueprint.govt.nz contains all the information about the key issues and possible futures to consider when making your submission.
