Library News

Tairua Oral History Group taped interviews available for your listening pleasure! - We are pleased to announce that the collection of tape recordings, their abstracts and the associated photographs of local people are now available for public consultation in the library.  Please ask the librarian for the Oral History material.

Audio books now here! - National library now provide us with a batch of talking books available for loan.  Talking books are free for use for print impaired or visually impaired borrowers or $2 for all other borrowers.

New adult fiction this month! - Tairua library welcomes your comments and reviews of new books.  Please place your feedback in the new fiction folder at the front desk.

DVD of the Great NZ Trek from Port Jackson to Tairua

Many people may not be aware, but for 1 week every year about 250 people are treking the entire length of NZ. In March this year the trek started in Port Jackson and finished in Tairua. Many of these trekers walked that distance in just 7 days, with 1 day rest at Coromandel Town.

The first day took them over the hill to Sandy Bay, then down to Waikawau Bay then up and over the hills again to Coromandel for the rest day.  Then back over the hill again past castle rock, towards Kuotunu but back up and through the forestry blocks towards the 309 road, finishing just south of Whitianga. From there a short day to Coroglen, and finally finishing up in the hills overlooking Tairua.

This event is a major undertaking, with over 400 people involved including crew. The trek accesses alot of private property and forestry, and its a great way to see some rugged inland terain.
