Susan Dunster art exhibition in the library
This month we are proud to present an art exhibition by Tairua artist, Susan Dunster.  Susan is one of the contributing artists featured in the Mercury Bay Art Escape this month.  Her exhibition will be available for viewing in the meeting room from 13th March-12 April.

I’d also like to take the opportunity to publicly thank last month’s artist, Melinda Rhapson, for donating a percentage of the recent sale of one of her paintings towards books at Tairua Library.

March Favourites

Here is a sample of favourite material from across the information spectrum this month.  Everything mentioned below is available from the library.  If you’re having trouble deciding what to read or research this month, please ask about the following:

Junior book of the month: Let’s Get Art by Brad Irwin

This is a non-fiction picture book, where four children visit a contemporary art gallery in New Zealand.  Their purpose is to find out what contemporary New Zealand art is all about.  This book puts art in an approachable context for kids.  It is modern, entertaining and beautiful to look at.  Recommended for children and adults of all ages.

Teenage book of the month: (everyone’s talking about it..) Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

The most requested book this summer - and not just by teenage girls!  If you haven’t gotten hold of the twilight saga yet, get yourself on the waiting list at the library.  Find out for yourself just what all the fuss is about!

Adult book of the month: The Bolter by Frances Osborne

A gripping biography about Idina Sackville – ‘the woman who scandalized 1920s society and became White Mischief’s infamous seductress’.  This book has been enjoyed by many of our library borrowers.  A must for your reading list.

Website of the monthhttp://www.flickr.com

Flickr could be described as a global online photo album. It is a tool you can use to upload your digital content (eg. pictures or video) to the web, in order to share with others.  You can make your images secure and private or you can make them publicly available. As well as being a useful tool for managing your own images, it’s also a great place to search and find images.  Type ‘tairua’ into flickr’s search box to view some stunning local images from photographers around the world!

Library Visitors

We are very happy to welcome Mrs McDowell’s senior class at Hikuai School to Tairua Library this month.  They will be spending the morning here at the library, developing their library and information skills and ‘scavenger hunting’ their way through our collections. We hope you enjoy your visit!

We are also delighted to welcome the teachers and children from Tairua Kindergarten for a library visit this month. The children will be treated to an extra special story-time session and a tour of the children’s area, with an opportunity to choose their own books and get their very own library cards.
